8 Day Rwanda Primate Tours

Day 1: Airport Pick up.
On appearance at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to the hotel for the overnight.
Day 2:Kigali – Nyanza – Nyungwe
After breakfast you will drive South to Nyungwe. Stop over for lunch and in Nyanza, that in the past was the political capital and it hosts the antique Royal palace, entirely renovated for the visitors, displaying original items and pieces of history of the Mwami, the king and  today transfer is long about 7 hours drive.
Day 3: The primates of Nyungwe National Park
After an early breakfast, enter Nyungwe forest for the chimpanzees trekking. There are two sites where this activity is conducted: the Uwinka visitor center and Cyamudongo Forest, which is part of the national park. Optional activity: you might try the “canopy walk” which is only found in Nyungwe or try another short forest trail or go for birding.
 Day 4: Along the shores of Lake Kivu to Kibuye
After breakfast, proceed north along the shores of Lake Kivu and arrive in Kibuye in time for lunch and optionally, we can arrange a boat trip to the closest islands on the lake, to discover unspoiled places and sceneries.
Day 5: The North West of Rwanda: Gishwati-Mukura National Park – Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will travel to Volcanoes National Park. This is the habitat of the chimpanzees, golden monkey, L’Hoest monkey, blue monkey, black and white colobus. We suggest taking a nature walk in the park.
Day 6: Mountain gorilla tracking
After breakfast, start the trekking in search for the mountain gorillas. After the briefing from the park rangers, you will reach the starting point for the trekking. In the afternoon we advise to take a cultural walk in one of the ecotourist sites of the communities around Kinigi, like Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, which will help you to see closer the real life of people, their traditions and even to see the Intore dancers.
Day 7: Volcanoes National Park / Kigali
After breakfast transfer to Kigali and we suggest for you the city tour of the town. You can visit the Genocide Memorial of Gisozi, the Camp Kigali, the Natural History Museum. Moreover, there are interesting traditional local markets, like in Muhima or the Caplaki center. If today you wish to take another optional trekking in Volcanoes National Park, you can do it with a supplement and we advise to choose between the golden monkeys trekking or visit the Old Karisoke Research Centre and the tombs of Dian Fossey and the mountain gorillas.
Day 8: Kigali Airport.
